Why Did This Sliding Gate Stop Halfway?
When an automatic sliding gate stops halfway through its travel, it's easy to assume the motor has failed or that an expensive electronic component needs replacing.

We recently attended a site where a sliding gate repeatedly stopped before completing its opening cycle. Instead of immediately replacing parts, our technicians carried out a systematic diagnosis to determine the real cause of the problem.
Diagnosing the Fault
The gate motor was operating correctly, but the gate struggled as it moved along the track.
A closer inspection revealed that the sliding gate track was heavily contaminated with leaves, dirt, and built-up debris.
As the gate travelled, the rollers encountered increased resistance. The additional load made it difficult for the motor to move the gate efficiently, causing the system to stop partway through its operating cycle.
Why a Dirty Track Causes Problems
Sliding gate motors are designed to move a gate that rolls freely.
When debris builds up on the track, it can:
Increase rolling resistance
Place additional strain on the gate motor
Cause inconsistent gate movement
Trigger safety protections due to excessive load
Accelerate wear on rollers and other mechanical components
Although the motor itself may still be in good condition, poor mechanical movement can lead to symptoms that resemble an electrical fault.
The Solution
Rather than replacing components unnecessarily, we removed the accumulated leaves, dirt, and debris from the entire gate track.
Once the sliding path had been thoroughly cleaned, the gate was tested through multiple opening and closing cycles.
The gate travelled smoothly and completed every cycle without interruption.
