Why We Recommended a Custom Bracket Instead of a Standard Mount
Every automatic gate installation is different.
While many installations can use standard motor mounting brackets, some sites require a custom-engineered solution to ensure the automatic gate operates safely, efficiently and reliably.
A recent project highlighted exactly why a custom automatic gate bracket was the best solution.
Watch the video below to see the custom automatic gate bracket and the completed installation featured in this blog.
The Challenge
The site presented several physical constraints that prevented a standard mounting bracket from positioning the automatic gate motor correctly.
Factors such as gate geometry, post location, structural clearances and motor alignment meant that using a standard bracket would have compromised the installation.
Rather than modifying other components or accepting a less-than-ideal setup, we designed and fabricated a custom automatic gate bracket specifically for the project.
Understanding the Geometry
Correct automatic gate motor alignment is critical for any automatic gate system.
If the motor sits too high, too low or too far from the gate, excessive side loading can occur. This places unnecessary stress on the motor, mounting points and moving components, leading to premature wear and unreliable operation.
By fabricating a custom bracket, we achieved the precise geometry required for smooth, efficient and long-lasting operation.
Maintaining the Correct Load Path
Every automatic gate motor transfers force through its mounting bracket into the supporting structure.
A poorly designed bracket can introduce twisting forces, unnecessary flex and uneven loading, reducing both efficiency and component life.
Our custom automatic gate bracket was engineered to transfer these loads correctly, improving stability while reducing stress on the motor, bracket and supporting structure.
Achieving the Required Clearance
Correct clearance around the motor and moving components is essential for reliable operation and future servicing.
The custom automatic gate bracket provided adequate clearance for:
Automatic gate travel
Rack and pinion engagement
Maintenance access
Safety devices
Future servicing and adjustments
Proper spacing also prevents interference between the motor, gate and surrounding structures throughout the entire operating cycle.
Custom Fabrication Process
Every project has different requirements.
This custom automatic gate bracket was fabricated to suit the exact dimensions and operating requirements of the site.
Once fabricated, the bracket was accurately positioned, securely fixed and integrated into the automatic gate system before the motor was installed, programmed, tested and commissioned.
Every measurement was checked to ensure correct alignment, smooth operation and long-term reliability.
The Result
The completed installation provides:
Correct automatic gate motor alignment
Improved load distribution
Smooth and reliable operation
Proper maintenance clearances
Reduced mechanical stress
A professional engineered finish
Although a mounting bracket may appear to be a relatively small component, it plays a significant role in the performance, reliability and lifespan of an automatic gate system.
Engineering Before Installation
At Gate Automation NSW, we don't believe in forcing standard products to fit non-standard situations.
When a project requires custom fabrication, we engineer components specifically for the property's layout and operational requirements rather than compromising the installation.
This engineering-first approach delivers safer, more reliable and longer-lasting automatic gate systems for residential, commercial, strata and industrial properties throughout Sydney.
Whether it's a custom mounting bracket, structural modification or a completely bespoke automation solution, our goal is always the sameāto design the right solution for the site.
